Some facts about New Delhi

If you are planning the travel to New Delhi, you should know some facts about this city. New Delhi is not only the capital of India, but also, in conjunction with the old district of Delhi, it is one of the largest cities in the world in which there is a wide variety of attractions.

The city is full of temples of different religions. Sometimes they are situated very close to each other creating a unique contrast. Sometimes this city is compared to the mausoleum; it is due to the fact that the city has a fairly large number of the memorials. The city hosts a variety of garden and park facilities. The most famous gardens are the Mogul, Shalimar and Roshanar garden.

The short New Delhi travel guide

The travel to New Delhi can’t exclude the visit of the Presidential Palace (Rashtrapati Bhavan). Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official residence of the President; it is also the core of the administrative complex in New Delhi. The building was built in 1929 as a palace for the British Viceroy of India.

During the New Delhi travel you definitely should visit the Gate of India (India Gate). Gate of India is the stone arch built as a memorial to Indian soldiers who died in the First World War. At the foot of the arch there is an eternal flame. At the very arch more than 90000 names are cut.

Radzhghat is the cremation place of Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of the Indian people in their struggle for national liberation (died from the hands of members of the Hindu chauvinist organization in 1948). The memorial is located in the center of the green amphitheater near with the river Jumna. On a marble slab the last words of Mahatma Gandhi are inscribed – «Ho Ram» («Oh, God! »).
